DOCUMENT UPDATED — 06/12/16

SCHEDULE

Friday
Acoustic Campfire Jam
Saturday Powered Jam (with PA)
Sunday Camp Clean-up

FRIDAY NIGHT
The key words for Friday are "acoustic" and "simple". Just bring something to eat, something to drink, and something (acoustic) with which to make some noise. Firewood is always a big plus! If you are unfamiliar with the area, we do not recommend driving on the dirt roads after sundown; we don't want anyone getting lost in the desert! (see map)

If you're concerned about finding the location or traversing the rugged terrain, call, text, or email Todd South (775-530-2940) for further info and suggestions.

SATURDAY JAM
The big jam begins Saturday afternoon and continues non-stop until the last person standing turns off the equipment. You are welcome to follow the map and arrive any time between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning, at which point we break camp, police the area, and head back to civilization.

ROAD CONDITIONS
Be aware that a vehicle with high wheel clearance is a very good idea, although people have been known to drive their everyday vehicles out to the site. 4WD isn't necessary, but do keep in mind you'll be on a weather-worn, rutted dirt road. There are hills. There are ditches. There are very large rocks. If you don't think your vehicle is up to the task, we suggest renting something more appropriate or letting us know in advance so we can help find you a ride. Conversely, let us know if you are driving to the caves and have extra room for ride sharing. Some folks make arrangements to park their car at the beginning of the dirt road (there is a large lot available for this) and then ride in to the site with someone who can better negotiate the terrain.

WEATHER & CAMPING GEAR
Weather in the high desert can be unpredictable. We recommend bringing rainproof tarps to cover equipment, and extra clothing layers to accommodate temperature shifts. Remember that you'll be far removed from civilization, so keep wilderness safety in mind at all times! Be sure to bring extra water, food/snacks, sanitary supplies, first aid gear, batteries, flashlights, etc. You can never have too much ICE. Plan to keep food items locked safely away from wildlife. When wandering the desert be aware that you are in wilderness; stepping in a snake hole can ruin your whole weekend.

If you're camping overnight, plan for the chance of low temperatures and/or precipitation. We recommend bringing a sleeping bag even if you don't intend to camp; plans have a way of changing once you're out and away from home. It's common for the sound level to remain fairly constant until early Sunday morning, so plan your campsite accordingly. Earplugs aren't a bad idea if you're planning on sleeping before the music stops.

MUSIC GEAR / POWERRR!
The sound system and miscellaneous gear will be provided by Burning Peace. Musicians should plan ahead and use some common sense when packing gear. DO bring instruments! DON'T bring your antique, hand-built, irreplaceable guitar. Anything you take out to the desert is bound to get dirty and exposed to temperature & humidity changes. There will not be a raised stage, so keep in mind you'll be standing on a tarp or piece of carpet surrounded by dirt, dust, pollen, dogs, children, lizards, bugs, and other chaotic elements.

You are welcome & encouraged to bring your amplifiers. Acoustic instruments and drums will be run through the PA system. If you have PA gear you'd like to add to the pile, or questions about what is being provided versus what you should bring, drop a line to tcsouth@yahoo.com.

Power will be supplied by a 5000 watt, "we don't need no stinkin' power company," gas generator—provided by Steve Thomas—available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We'll have plenty of wattage available for lights, amplifiers, toaster ovens, massage chairs, what have you. The generator, fuel, and other miscellany do cost a bit of money, which brings us to...

PASSING THE HAT
The Planning Group will be fronting the cost of fuel, etc.; your contributions are welcome. When it's time to pass the proverbial hat, remember how nice it is to have AC power and a PA system in the middle of nowhere for making noise. Everyone is encouraged to bring firewood for the communal woodpile.

Food & drink are of course BYOV (bring your own vittles). The bonfire(s) we light can be used for cooking, however, it's a really good idea to bring some snacks/food items that do not require cooking. Bringing a small camp stove is a good way to ensure having a warm meal without losing your eyebrows in the process.

FRIENDS, FAMILY & FIDO
You are encouraged to invite your close friends & family, but please don't tell the entire neighborhood. This event is planned as a musicians' retreat; low stress and plenty of fun are the order of the day. We suggest inviting friends with whom you'll enjoy sharing many hours in the desert, and whom enjoy freeform, live music.

Pets & teenaged children are welcome, however, our favorite piece of desert is surrounded by some very rugged terrain, including cliffs, caves and other geographical wonders not suitable for exploration by young children & animals. Do not bring a pet or child unless you are prepared to be fully responsible for their behavior; not everyone wants to share their campsite with your over-excited child or pet. Based on experience, we do not recommend bringing children under 14 years of age, or pets that may get underfoot or disturb other people's camping experience.

Finally, keep in mind that the majority of your fellow revelers are adults who are looking to, "get away from it all." We're not suggesting anyone will pull a Janet Jackson, but don't expect people to act as if they're attending a church picnic. This is an adult event for friends to share some music in a beatiful and remote setting. Let's have some fun!

R.S.V.P.
Répondez s'il vous plaît with the number of people you're bringing, when you're planning on joining us, what your ride status is, and any questions you might have. Thanks, and we'll see you there!
